Safe at Home Website Launch

Flying Start is delighted to announce the launch of the new Safe at Home website for parents, carers and professionals at

The website will provide information to support families seeking advice and tips relating to child safety in the home for babies, toddlers and children under 5.  It offers the opportunity for a parent living in Luton to apply online 24/7 for a FREE home safety check. If a parent is on a low income and receiving benefits, they may also qualify for a donation of child safety equipment including safety gates, fireguards, cupboard locks. A short application form can be found on the apply online page which the parent to complete at a time convenient for them.  We then follow up with a call from a home safety advisor to arrange a mutually convenient time for the home visit and equipment fitting.

The aim of Safe at Home is to reduce the risk of accidental injuries and even death for children under 5. We do this by raising awareness and helping parents to ensure a safe home environment for their little ones as recommended in the NICE guidance … with CIP  ‘child injury prevention’ as our motto.  Take a look around the website . You will find lots of safety information relating to the most common everyday type of accidents.

Our new Public Health programme Tubes of Life is featured and includes an informative video link aimed at practitioners. This demonstrates the 3 key messages of TOL including why and how these important messages can be shared with parents.

The website features regular safety topics and campaigns relating to local and national child safety issues. There is an events and training tab where you can find out about further training and support and latest Safe at Home news.  At the moment we are promoting a free workshop for pregnant and new parents called  Choosing & Using Nursery Equipment.  Practitioners will also find the Professionals page a useful link to source child safety related information.

Led by the Pre-School Learning Alliance and our partners Flying Start, Public Health and Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, we look forward to reaching more families and helping keep our young children in Luton safe.
