Starting Solids parent’s sessions being delivered at Flying Start Children Centres
Starting solids is an important time for setting a child’s taste preferences and eating behaviours. The timing of introducing solids is also important, with early weaning (before 6 months) associated with a higher risk of obesity.
Starting solids information sessions for parents are now being delivered in Flying Start Children’s Centres. These 1.5 hour sessions run every 4-6 weeks in each Flying Start neighbourhood. A visual aid has been developed by Flying Start and the dietetics team to support the delivery of these sessions. This 40 page resource provides a visual guide for parents on what, when and how to introduce solid foods. It includes all the evidence based guidelines for feeding from starting solid foods until the first year of life.
The sessions are aimed at parents with babies 3-6 months that have not yet started on solids. For times and locations of upcoming Starting solids sessions visit: https://www.flyingstartluton.com/parent/parenting-programmes/starting-solids/
