Launch event for Luton’s Aspiration Centre

Aspiration Launch

On Friday 11 May the new Luton ‘Aspiration Centre’ launched in St Georges square at a two day event. This kicked off a tour giving people in Luton the opportunity to access the mobile unit and find out more about skills, training and career options.

Representatives of the Flying Start team were out in force at the launch event.  Staff set up gazebo’s, provided information leaflets and even aspiration; themed toys – bricks, tools and hard hats so that the youngest visitors to our stand could join in.

Through the day the children’s centre and office based staff had many conversations with members of the public, who we were pleased to receive information about Children’s Centre services, parenting support and volunteering opportunities.

At 12pm the official launch was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Leader of the Council Cllr Hazel Simmons. This was followed by a spot of lunch, well received by the hungry helpers!

Throughout the afternoon people joined in with a fun demonstration by a hula hoop dancer, keeping us all entertained.

Flying Start received a huge thank you from the organisers for attending; our presence was appreciated as a really positive story for Luton and its investment in people right from the earliest stages of life.  Thank you to Sarah Lawlor for coordinating our efforts and to all those involved in planning, carrying, manning the stall and packing away. One of many examples of great teamwork by a great team!

The Aspiration Centre, which will reach the whole Borough, forms part of the £1.9 million Investment Framework (LIF) Skills and Opportunities programme, a three year plan to drive aspiration and highlight opportunities in Luton for Luton people. The tour of the Aspiration Centre will be continuing throughout the year.
