Soon you will see these boxes, filled with children’s books and activity ideas around the town in waiting areas and public spaces for families to use whilst waiting for appointments.

The books have been donated by children attending Warden Hill Infant school and Warden Hill Junior schools and local organisations including The Book Junction Ltd, a local community focused business.

The boxes will be placed in Luton venues including:

  • • Active Luton
  • • Community centres
  • • Luton and Dunstable hospital waiting areas
  • • Luton Council customer services
  • • Central library
  • • Dental surgeries   and
  • • Edwin Lobo Centre.

Flying Start have produced a range of activities to go alongside the books which will promote language and communication between adults and children whilst they are waiting for their appointments.

Families can also share the books, talk about the pictures and read and retell the stories before returning them for the next families.

The venues have agreed to be partners in creating a communication friendly town. More partners will be coming on board later this year. If you are interested in finding out more visit or if you would like to to create a communication friendly space, please contact 01582 548356.
