Opportunity Group

The Flying Start Opportunity group started in November 2021 and is designed to support children with complex Special Educational Needs and their families.

The aim of the sessions is to:

  • Build a positive relationship with each parent to work effectively with them and their child.
  • Provide a safe learning environment which will lead to effective learning and development for each child.
  • Support each parent by modelling play activities and strategies, and providing opportunities to discuss each child’s developmental needs
  • Empower parents and support them develop their child’s skills and learning further.
  • Signpost and share information

The Opportunity group sessions are held in six-week blocks at Redgrave Children’s & Young Peoples Centre in partnership with the 0-19 Children’s Service team. Many children that have attended the sessions are waiting for a developmental assessment at the Edwin Lobo centre and places in the group are carefully considered, dependant on each child’s individual needs and stage of development. Therefore, to check suitability of a family or to make a referral please contact Shafy Hafiz Tel: 07866518153.

Little Treasures

Little Treasures Play and Learn is set up similarly to a Stay and Play session however, there is a deeper focus on using play activities which promote the development of communication skills, attention and listening, sensory processing and social interactions. The sessions are held every Monday afternoon during term time, at our Parktown Centre, and are suitable for children up to the age of five.

The aim of the sessions is to:

  • Provide SEND children with a safe and stimulating play environment that meets their needs.
  • Promote the learning and development of children in an engaging approach.
  • Engage with and support parents with strategies that they can use at home to support their child’s needs.

Little treasures is an invite only group and is usually offered to families from our Little Talkers sessions, however, we will accept referrals from other professionals if they feel a family would benefit from accessing the group. Therefore, if you would like to know more about the sessions or make a referral, please contact Christine Dennis Tel:01582 368245.
