Bilingualism in early childhood

This course is designed specifically to meet the needs of practitioners working with children in early years. The  course will support practitioners understanding of bilingualism, how it relates to early years children as well as practical approaches to distinguishing between EAL and additional needs.’

By the end of this session, participants will have an increased understanding of bilingualism in the context of early years and a range of ideas to put in place in their setting.

The aims of the session include:

  • To understand the different forms of bilingualism
  •  To understand economic and social factors
  • EAL and EYFS
  • To understand the stages of additional language learning
  • Supporting learning and assessing progress
  •  EAL, SLCN or learning difficulty? Unpicking the puzzle
